We measure radial stem variations in trees with dendrometers and water transport in the stem with sap-flow sensors. This allows us to track the responses of trees to light, temperature and soil moisture at sub-hourly intervals.
The insights gained into the direct interaction between trees and their environment complements the findings from long tree-ring series.
